Joseph Coker- owner and teacher

Joseph started training martial arts under his father Dale Coker as a small child in the family's karate school in Goose Creek, South Carolina.  Earning his black belt in Wado-Ryu karate in 1999, Joseph began his teaching career while still a teenager. 

In 2002, he helped found Crown Martial Arts with brother Bradley Coker.  Teaching over 250 kids a week in some of Charleston's finest private schools, Joseph honed his teaching skills while simultaneously competing on the national and international karate circuit.  

In 2003, he won the bronze medal at the AAU National Championships.  In 2007, he moved to Copenhagen, Denmark.  Among other pursuits, he founded Black Belt Team Building.  A martial arts themed team building company through which he taught seminars to large and small Danish companies.  While in Denmark, Joseph began his training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu under JP Santos at Choke Academy, eventually earning his blue belt.  

In 2012, Joseph moved back to America to attend school at Berklee College of Music, but was unfortunately not able to attend.  After setting back home in Charleston, South Carolina.  In 2014, Joseph was awarded his purple belt under Casey Collias at CMMA in North Charleston, SC.  

In 2015, after the closure under CMMA, Joseph began training under Malachy Friedman at ATT Lowcountry where he trains to this day. 

Joseph started Park Circle Jiu Jitsu as a way to carry on the tradition of learning and teaching through martial arts that has been a part of his life from beginning to present.
