Great comes from good. Good comes from ordinary. Ordinary comes from discomfort. And discomfort comes from pain. Everything we want that is out of reach, everything we want that is at the limit of our ability, everything we want that is a horizon goal is a composite of many many things.
The entire physical universe is made up of atoms. In much the same way, great days are a composite of hundreds if not thousands of micro choices. Its very seldom that one choice dooms or elevates us. Its the choices we make a thousand times that takes us to our target. To have a great day, you need to have many many good days. To have a good day, you must have some pretty boring ordinary days. Ordinary days are The course correct from pain and discomfort. We notice a problem, we feel a problem, and we try to change.
Jiu Jitsu, even for 3 year olds is no different. Kids grow in spurts, and so does their understanding of this sport. Nothing nothing nothing BOOM. Struggle struggle struggle JUMP.
I've seen it happen so many times that I have absolute faith in the process. Everyone wants the boom or the jump. Everyone wants to buy the miracle. But its the struggle that makes the miracle. Its the pain that causes the discomfort that causes ordinary changes that lead to good days that finally, just finally enable the great days.
I'm here for the struggle with my students. I love the jump, its so fun, but the I'm here to be a doula for the struggle.
